Feminism and Pornography Differing Views - 1221 Words

The pornography debate has been an issue within the feminist movement that has been pushed to the periphery in recent times. It is not as widely seen on the main stage of the feminist agenda and this may be because of a division in feminist thought with regards to pornography. Generally speaking, there are â€Å"pro-sex† feminists who believe that women have the right to do what they wish with their bodies and there are â€Å"pro-censorship† feminists who believe pornography is inherently degrading and violent towards women. In this paper I am going to discuss the views and opinions held by each faction of the pornography debate and I will discuss the pros and cons of each view and discuss how every day women (i.e. not scholars/academics) feel about pornography. To begin I would like to discuss â€Å"pro-sex† feminists and their views on pornography. These feminists believe that women have the choice â€Å"to participate in and consume pornography† and man y believe that pornography can have positive effects for women. If participation in pornography is consensual then there is no reason that a woman cannot partake in the production of pornography. This is summed up in the mantra â€Å"a woman’s body, a woman’s right† and as long as she is not being coerced then she has the right to do what she would like with her own body. This is where the opinions and views of sex workers themselves come in to play. The Great War Through the Eyes of an Artist How does one depict art? Art has been around since the dawn of man. A form of self-expression, a way to creatively put down ones ideals in hopes of creating a masterpiece, and where ever there has been art there has been an artist. In society the artist is a very important person able to utilize his work and make the people think and question the higher power. Out of the entire artistic association of the world and over the entire timeline of history one has stood out to me. A man who essentially went to hell and back, a man who put what he saw down so that he could warn others of the tragedies of the World War One world. A short description of effect of social networking on an individuals behavior along with the concept of Internet addiction is being provided herein. Furthermore it is to be noted that interaction over the internet lacks any physical form of interaction and thus it leaves the individuals to freely act as per their will while being a completely different individual on the inside. The term internet anonymity is also one of the problems and has a direct effect on the individual behavioral pattern. Furthermore, it is to be stated that individuals have become increasingly addicted to the internet with time. Individuals are becoming more and more dependent on this medium of communication with the passage of time. It has been observed through various reports and other researches that the addiction to the internet is being considered as a disorder and is often found to be existing along with issues pertaining to the mental health of an individual. Further researches have revealed that internet addiction is primarily linked with the mental state of depression of an individual. Surveys and further researches have revealed that Internet addiction has a direct effect on an individual psychologically, socially and even occupationally. It has been found that in the past few years there has been an exponential rise in the number of individuals gaining access to the internet and using the same in an excessive manner (Emerging cognitive neuroscience and related technologies, 2008). The addi ction to the internet has been classified in 5 major sections, which being: Cyber sexual Addiction: wherein an addict is spending the majority of their online time in browsing through various pornographic websites and watching cyber porn. Net Compulsions: this is basically a type of obsession for an individual who is an addict. The addicts have a habit of gambling online and being a shopaholic over the digital stores (The Internet, 2009). Cyber-relationship: the addicts who spend the majority of their time in browsing through social websites and are constantly embroiling themselves into relationships that are being forged over the internet. Information Overload: these types of addicts have an excessive urge to surf the internet over and over again for different data and various types of databases (Vasseur, Dunkels, 2010) Computer Game Addiction: These types of addicts of the internet are basically the ones who are spending the majority of their online time in playing games over the internet. Internet addiction has reached to such a point that at present it is being treated as a form of mental disorder. Thus it is being considered as an integral part of the mental health programs all over the world. It might be useful as well as constructive in nature if a study could be conducted methodically and carefully of the various behavioral patterns the individuals who are addicted to the internet along with the behavioral patterns of the individuals while conduction antisocial activities over the internet (Hine, 2013). A proper and fundamental understanding of the root nature of the problems shall be of help to the different researchers as also for the educators for developing a proper educational program. These programs will be able to the solve some of the problems pertaining to excessive internet usage and the effects that the internet has on the behavior of an individual. It is to be noted that all the variables that have stated herein above in this section are complex variables in nature and are not feasible for collection of data. Hence, the proposed model or the theorized model shall be used in place of the current model for a better understanding of the effect that the Internet has on the behavior of an individual. The proposed solution Thus based on the above mentioned problems that might arise while conducting the research, it is being proposed that the model be changed to accommodate the new parameters as given in the hypothesis model as shown herein below. It is to be mentioned herein that the internet connectivity shall not be changing it will be the primary and independent variable in the new model (Zhang, 2002). The use of internet addiction shall be incorporating the various types of internet tools as aforementioned. The factors of the social networking shall be transformed into a dependent variable known as internet connectivity. The dependent variable antisocial behavior shall be transformed to individuals behavior (Huffman, 2012). It is being reiterated that the present topic for the project is complex in nature and will be difficult in collecting proper data for the different parameters. Thus to simplify the method of data collection and reducing the measurable variables to a limited number of parameters, the project topic shall be brought down to focus exclusively on Individuals Behavior and the internet tools along with their effect on the Individuals Behavior (Manley, 2004).
